Nigerian carrier Air Peace has officially expanded its regional fleet capacity by taking delivery of its first brand-new Embraer 175 (E175) regional jet. According to Embraer's 2026 African Connectivity Report, there are currently 55 intra-African city pairs that lack direct air service, an increase from 45 in 2025. By deploying highly efficient regional jets, Air Peace aims to bridge these connectivity gaps. Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, stated that the delivery reflects the airline's commitment to boosting regional travel with a modern fleet, noting that the new aircraft will significantly increase operational flexibility and market reach.

Historical Context and Partnership

This delivery builds upon a long-standing partnership between Air Peace and the Brazilian aerospace manufacturer. In 2021, the airline successfully integrated the larger Embraer E195-E2 into its operations, becoming the launch customer for the variant in Africa. This successful integration established the foundation for the current Embraer regional jet delivery. Originally, Air Peace placed a firm order for five E175 aircraft in September 2023, though the order was later adjusted, with three of those units converted to the larger E195-E2 model. Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, noted that the handover highlights the continued demand for right-sized aircraft among airlines seeking to expand connectivity efficiently.

Before the newly delivered E175 can enter commercial service, it must be formally placed on the Nigerian registry and receive airworthiness certification from the NCAA (Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority). This regulatory process is a standard requirement for all new aircraft induction. The airline expects to initiate commercial service for the new E175 on its domestic and regional network by the third quarter of 2026.
